HOW I FOUND YOGA
As a competitive ex-gymnast and a qualified yoga teacher, I have always enjoyed finding new ways to move. However I spent years being totally inactive in a corporate job in London feeling lethargic and unfit, and it was only when I stumbled across a weekly yoga class in a local gym that I really started to move again and re-discover what my body was capable of. I realised I wanted to help others reconnect with movement and fitness in our modern day lifestyles.
I retrained as a yoga teacher, reconnected with adult gymnastics and fell in love with handbalancing (in 2020 I completed the daily handstand challenge, practicing handstands and handbalancing for at least 10 minutes every single day). And so, “The GymYogi” was born! My practice and teaching has also expanded to include more restorative styles as well.
MY YOGA / INVERSION TEACHING
I take particular pleasure in teaching others. What I really enjoy is seeing my clients surprise themselves in what they can do, and more often than not those who thought it was ‘too late’ or they were ‘too old’ to take up something new. I offer a friendly and fun approach to teaching, and due to my technical gymnastic days, I bring an emphasis on understanding the technical "why" and "how" behind particular movements and skills that can be tricky to learn, that is often overlooked.
My teaching is a blend of yoga and a specialism in inversions (headstand variations, forearm stands / pincha, handstand and arm balances) as well as more advanced handbalancing. I also hold qualifications in gymnastics and trampolining coaching and can teach adult gymnastics to beginners/intermediates.
I also love practicing acro-yoga and sports photography - you can see both on my instagram page!
As a result of the recent isolated times my practice and teaching has also expanded to include restorative yoga, currently undertaking further 32 hour training course on restorative, self massage and somatic movement, completing February 2022.
